Richard Stanley Irvine
April 26, 1919 - March 2, 2012
Richard Stanley “Stan” Irvine, son of Samuel and Lucille (Woodhouse) Irvine, was born April 26, 1919, in Tarkio, Missouri. Stan attended Tarkio High School, graduating in 1937 and Tarkio College in 1941. On May 9, 1942, Stan entered into the United States Army Air Corp, serving his country during World War II as First Lieutenant. Stan instructed students in flight, navigation, and instruments in a B-24. He also served as a flight commander of 75 men and received training to become a B-29 flight instructor.
On October 23, 1943, Stan was united in marriage to Ruth E. Sieben in Liberal, Kansas. Following Stan’s honorable discharge, they returned to Tarkio and made their home on the Irvine Family Farm, east of Tarkio. Stan farmed until becoming the Manager of Tarkio Pelleting Corporation, retiring in 1986. After retirement, Stan and Ruth moved to Sun City West, Arizona until 2006. Since 2006, they made their home at Living Community of Saint Joseph, Missouri. Ruth passed away August 26, 2011. Stan passed away on March 2, 2012, at Tiffany Heights Nursing Home, Mound City, Missouri at the age of 92.
Stan was a long standing former member of the Tarkio United Methodist Church, and the Shepherd of the Hills United Methodist Church, Sun City West. While in Tarkio, Stan was a member of the Tarkio Rotary Club and served as a Board member of the Midwest Feed Manufacturers. Stan enjoyed dancing, golfing, playing bridge and spending time with his family.
Besides his parents and wife, Stan was preceded in death by brother, Maurice Irvine and sister, Virginia Irvine. Survivors include two daughters, Susan Richard and husband, Gary, Folsom, California and Patty Davis and husband, Sheldon, Fairfax, Missouri; two grandchildren, Derek Davis and wife, Dawn and Courtney Graves and husband, Jarod, all of Fairfax; two great-grandchildren, Amber Lewis, Columbia, Missouri, and Baylee Lewis, Fairfax; sister-in-law, Margaret Irvine, Tarkio; nephews, Steve Irvine and wife, Eileen, and Larry Irvine and special friend, Jeannine Broermann, all of Tarkio.
Services: 11:00 A.M., Monday, March 5, 2012, Davis Funeral Home, Tarkio.
Interment: Home Cemetery, Tarkio.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 10:50 A.M., Monday, March 5, 2012, prior to the service at Davis Funeral Home.
