Robert D. “Bob” Smith, the son of C. Clifford and Leona M. (Freeman) Smith, was born May 27, 1943, in Tarkio, Missouri. Bob attended Westboro High School, Westboro, Missouri, graduating in 1961.

 

On June 24, 1962, Bob was united in marriage to Elizabeth M. “Betty” Redfern at the First Baptist Church, Tarkio. They made their home in Tarkio and became parents of one son, David. Betty passed away March 24, 2021.

 

On November 17, 1966, Bob entered the United States Army, serving his country during the Vietnam War. He received his honorable discharge on November 15, 1968. After returning to Tarkio, Bob owned and operated his family farm for 20 years. He then worked numerous jobs, including Grebe Supply, Baer and Associates, and Pella Corporation where he retired in 2008.

 

Bob was a member of the Merrill Smith American Legion Post #32, Westboro. He enjoyed spending time with family. Bob passed away Thursday, December 7, 2023, at Falls City Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Falls City, Nebraska, at the age of 80.

 

Besides his parents and wife, Betty Smith, Bob was preceded in death by siblings, James Clifford Smith and Ann Schoonover; sister-in-law, Trudy Redfern. Survivors include son, David (Gloria) Smith, Tarkio; granddaughter, Katie Smith; sister, Betty Fischer, Kansas City, Missouri; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jim Redfern, Overland Park, Kansas, Bob (Joyce) Redfern, Everett, Oregon, and Ed Redfern, Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Catherine Archambault, Stockton, Missouri, and Dianna (Chris) Kramer, Lenexa, Kansas; numerous nieces and nephews.

 

Funeral Service: 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, December 13, 2023, First Baptist Church, Tarkio.

Open visitation will begin 9:00 A.M., Tuesday, December 12, Davis Funeral Home, Tarkio, where the family will receive friends from 6:00-7:00 P.M.

Interment: Home Cemetery, Tarkio.

Memorials: Allen Schiffern American Legion Post #199, Tarkio or Tarkio Nutrition Center.

Arrangements: Davis Funeral Home, Tarkio.
