Robert Ray (Bob) Currie, the son of John Edward and Dorothy May (Moore) Currie, was born, July 19, 1952 in Fairfax, Missouri. Bob graduated from Tarkio High School in 1970.
On Sept 2, 1978, Bob was united in marriage to Debbie Sybert and they became the parents of two children, Heather LeAnn and John Robert. They were later divorced.
Bob was active in the Boy Scouts and was awarded the Eagle Scout and the God And Country Award. He was also active in all phases of Rodeo since age eleven, especially enjoying bull riding, and had competed in professional rodeos throughout the United States and Canada. Bob was a faithful member of the Tarkio Christian Church, where he had served on several church boards. He enjoyed farming, livestock, going fishing at Yankton, South Dakota, and watching the Dallas Cowboys.
Bob owned a farm southeast of Tarkio which originally belonged to his great great-grandfather, Peter Currie. He lived on the family farm his entire life, and currently lived on an acreage on North 3rd St. that originally belonged to his great grandfather Robert Van Leuven. For years Bob owned a fleet of trucks and trailers and hauled grain and livestock. Bob passed away Tuesday February 16, 2010 at his residence in Tarkio at the age of 57 years.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his special friend Shannon Lee Roberts of the home Tarkio, daughter, Heather LeAnn Thompson and her husband Tim, Denver, Colorado, son, John Robert Currie, Beatrice, Nebraska; grandchildren, Wyatt J., DeLanye L. and Justice M. Currie; sister Patricia Rolofson and her husband Dean, Tarkio; nephew, Dr. Tyler Rolofson; cousin, Donna M. Payne and her husband Jess, Tarkio; Shannon’s children, Justin and Jacob Roberts.
Services:
10:00 am, Saturday, February 20, 2010 at First Christian Church, Tarkio.
Interment: Home Cemetery, Tarkio.
The family will receive friends from 9:00 am to 9:50 am, prior to the service on Saturday, February 20, 2010 at First Christian Church, Tarkio.
Memorials: First Christian Church, Tarkio or the Tarkio Rodeo Association Capital Improvement Fund.
