Robert Ray Van Leuven, the son of Donald Robert and Gussie Lee (Horton) Van Leuven, was born September 21, 1926 in Tarkio, Missouri. He attended country school east of Tarkio and graduated from Tarkio High School in 1944.
Bob entered the United States Navy on August 22, 1944 and served his country during World War II. On January 28, 1945, Bob married Donna Hunter and they became the parents of Pam and Cindy. They were later divorced. Upon receiving his honorable discharge on April 17, 1946, Bob returned to Fairfax, Missouri and farmed with his father-in-law, J.E. Hunter.
On June 11, 1959, Bob was united in marriage Lavern Valasek and became the parents of Valerie, Bob and Randolph. They lived in Omaha, Nebraska where Bob was employed as a truck driver hauling livestock and later worked for Cargill hauling agricultural products. He retired in 1993 after 35 years receiving the One Million Accident Free Miles Award. In Omaha Bob was a member of the American Legion. Lavern preceded him in death in 1991.
On April 22, 1999, Bob married Betty McIntosh in Maryville, Missouri. They made their home in Tarkio until the present time. Bob loved agriculture and was proud of his family’s Century Farm where he raised cattle and sheep until 2006. Bob passed away Friday, April 23, 2010 at Tarkio Rehabilitation and Health Care at the age of 83 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Lavern; brother, Dale Van Leuven; granddaughter, Lisa K. Simmons and niece, Stacy Van Leuven. Survivors include his wife, Betty Jean, of their home in Tarkio; children, Pam Rightsell and husband, Mac, Tarkio, Cindy Wykes and husband, Steve, Dunkirk, Ohio, Valerie Rauso and husband, Lou, Omaha, Nebraska, Bob Van Leuven and wife, Donna, Mesa, Arizona and Randolph Van Leuven, also of Tarkio; stepchildren, Sharley Ann Squier and husband, Fred, Kalvin McIntosh and wife, Stephanie, Paul McIntosh and wife, Shannon, Kelly McIntosh and wife, Cindy, Sid McIntosh and wife, Ashley; eight grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, eleven step grandchildren, three step great grandchildren, sister-in-law, Lois Van Leuven, one niece, one nephew and numerous cousins.
Funeral Service:
2:00 pm, Monday, April 26, 2010, Davis Funeral Home, Tarkio.
Interment: Home Cemetery, Tarkio.
The family will receive friends 5:00 – 6:00 pm,
Sunday, April 25th, Davis Funeral Home.
Memorials: Kendallwood Hospice or St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Tarkio.
