Robert William Vette, the son of Leo and Clara (Broermann) Vette was born October 6, 1928, at the home in rural Tarkio, Missouri, where he lived until he entered the nursing home in August 2014. He passed away March 6, 2017, in Rock Port, Missouri, at the age of 88.
Robert attended High Bank country school until enrolling in Rock Port High School, where he graduated in 1945 at the age of 16. After high school, he began farming with his dad and brother. He was drafted into the army in December 1950. He spent time at Fort Leonard Wood and diesel mechanics school in Kansas City, Missouri. He was then transferred to Korea where he served until his discharge in the fall of 1952.
Robert was united in marriage to Velva Deane Stevens at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Westboro, Missouri, by Rev. Nolte on January 18, 1953. Robert was baptized at St. John’s on October 28, 1928, and confirmed at St. John’s on August 8, 1943. Robert served on St. John’s church council as chairman. The St. John’s congregation was a very important part of his life.
Robert and Deane had two sons, Robert (Bobby) Dean and Gary Lee.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Alfred and wife, Verna; and his sister, Leta and husband, George Balle. Robert is survived by his wife, Deane; son, Bobby Vette and wife, Karen; son, Gary Vette and wife, Darcy; grandchildren, Brian, Nicole, Brooke, and Tim and wife, Kara; great-grandchildren, Isaac, Owen and Emmeline; brother-in-law, Lee Eddie Stevens and wife, Donna; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Service: 10:30 A.M., Friday, March 10, 2017, St. John’s Lutheran Church, Westboro, Missouri.
Interment: St. John’s Cemetery, Westboro.
Open visitation begins 9:00 A.M., Thursday, March 9, Davis Funeral Home. Following the service on Friday, the family will receive friends in the church basement.
