Robert Wythe Stevens
May 2, 1916 - September 10, 2010
Robert Wythe Stevens, the son of Robert Lesley and Ora Ethel (Nuckolls) Stevens, was born May 2, 1916 in Blanchard, Iowa. He attended North Star country school northeast of Tarkio, Missouri. Robert worked on the Stevens family farm, and began his farming career at an early age.
On March 9, 1941, Robert was united in marriage to Roberta Ann Symmonds at the Methodist Church parsonage in Westboro, Missouri. They made their home in rural Blanchard and became the parents of four children; Walter, Gelvin, Nancy, and Phyllis. Roberta passed away on December 19, 1986.
On January 17, 1988, Robert was united in marriage to Lorena Faye Martin at the Fairfax Baptist Church in Fairfax, Missouri. They made their home in Fairfax where they resided until the present time. Robert passed away Friday, September, 10, 2010 at Bryan LGH East Hospital in Lincoln, Nebraska, at the age of 94 years.
Robert was a kind, gentle and very generous man who would help anyone in need. He loved farming and caring for his livestock, with his dog Bailey, close by his side. His family was extremely important to him and he enjoyed spending time with them. Robert had a love for baseball and followed the Kansas City Royals for many years. On occasion, he was found at the Daybreak Cafe in Fairfax enjoying a cup of coffee with his friends. Robert was a member of the Fairfax Baptist Church.
Besides his parents and wife Roberta, Robert was preceded in death by a great granddaughter; Rachael Cook, four brothers; Glenn, Marvin, George, and John Stevens, three sisters; Edythe Roberts, Hazel Thompson and Ora Lea Johnson. Survivors include his wife, Lorena F. Stevens, of the home in Fairfax; sons, Walter Stevens and wife, Shirley, Watson, Missouri, Gelvin Stevens and wife, Marlene, Creighton, Nebraska; daughters, Nancy Martin and husband, Carl, Omaha, Nebraska, Phyllis Martin and husband, Dennis, Tarkio; step-children, Roger Martin and wife, Ann, Skidmore, Carolyn Martin, Higdon, Arkansas, Maurice Martin and wife, Gay, Tarkio; grandchildren, Sandra Lansdown, Corey Stevens, Douglas Stevens, Michelle Bethea, Mindy Hoffman, Carl “Randy†Martin, Monica Bailey, Mackenzie Dougherty, Carrie Gusmus, Scott Cook, Bryan Martin, Brent Martin, A.J. Martin; fifteen great grandchildren; sister, Anna Belle Johnson, Westboro, Missouri; brother-in-law, Waldo Thompson, Fairfax; sister-in-law, Fern Stevens, Shenandoah, Iowa; numerous nieces and nephews.
Services: 10:30 A.M., Monday, September 13, 2010, Fairfax Baptist Church, Fairfax.
Interment: Home Cemetery, Tarkio.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 7:00 P.M., Sunday, September 12, 2010, at Davis Funeral Home, Tarkio.
