Roger Lee Bess, the son of Charles and Audra (Holmes) Bess was born November 13, 1945 in Coldwater, Missouri. He graduated from Westboro High School, Westboro, Missouri in 1964.
On March 28, 1964 he was united in marriage to Vanita Lynn Herrick at the Westboro United Methodist Church. They made their home in Blanchard, Iowa and Westboro and became the parents of four children; Robyn Lynn, Ronda Lea, Renee Linette and Roger “Kent”.
Roger owned and operated State Line Oil, a Skelly gas station in Blanchard. He later sold the station and purchased a home and farm west of Westboro, where he lived to the present time. Roger loved farming and raising cattle. He also owned and operated Bess Grain and Trucking in Westboro until the mid-1990’s. He retired in 2014. Roger passed away Wednesday, August 14, 2019, at his home in Westboro at the age of 73.
Roger excelled at baseball and had an opportunity to play minor league ball. He loved listening to St. Louis Cardinal’s baseball games. He also enjoyed slow and fast pitch softball, hunting and vacationing with family. He was a member of the Elks Club, Shenandoah, Iowa and a former member of the Blanchard Methodist Church.
Beside his parents, Roger was preceded in death by two children, Robyn and Kent Bess; brother, Doug Bess and half-brother, Fred Jackson. Survivors include, ex-wife and friend, Lynn Bess, Maryville, Missouri; daughters, Ronda (Mike) Farnan, Clearmont, Missouri and Renee (Bruce) Sanders, Elmo, Missouri; five grandchildren, Meghan, Trevor, Treyton, Travis and Blake; seven great-grandchildren, “Lil” Trevor, Adriana, Ariana, Maximus, Briseis, Adeline and Angel; half-brother, Darrell Jackson, Springfield, Missouri and half-sister, Penny Lower, Lake Ozark, Missouri; and numerous nieces and nephews.
There will be no memorial services or visitation.
