Ron Hunter, the son of Carroll Eugene and Orma Lee (Dawson) Hunter, was born December 23, 1946, in Hamburg, Iowa. He attended Rock Port High School, Rock Port, Missouri, graduating in 1964. Ron then attended Tarkio College, Tarkio, Missouri, before transferring to Northwest Missouri State University, Maryville, Missouri. He received his bachelor’s degree in agriculture in 1970.
On June 28, 1975, Ron was united in marriage to Lynn Bailey at the First Lutheran Church, Rock Port. They became the parents of two sons, Reid and Jay, and made their home in Rock Port.
In 1973, Ron was employed by Atchison-Holt Electric. While serving as Manager, he served on many statewide boards. He met many wonderful people and was awarded the AC Burrows Award in 2006. The purpose of this award is to recognize directors and employees of electric cooperatives for outstanding service to their cooperative, community, and service areas. Those who received the award were selected because of their leadership, above and beyond the call of duty to strengthen and improve the economic and social conditions in their area. In the 33 years of service, Ron had many great co-workers and employees that he greatly appreciated and respected.
In Ron’s younger years, he enjoyed playing baseball, softball, and bowling. He was a member of the Rock Port Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon, and Rock Port Optimist Club. He also served on the Rock Port Senior Housing Board. Ron loved mowing and volunteering at the Rock Port Golf and Country Club, collecting classic vehicles and attending local car shows. Ron passed away Sunday, August 11, 2024, at St. Mary’s Hospital, Nebraska City, Nebraska, at the age of 77.
Besides his parents, Ron was preceded in death by aunts and uncles, Connie (Paul) Cochran and Bill (Ardith) Cook. Survivors include wife, Lynn Hunter, of the home in Rock Port; children, Reid (Andrea Carder) Hunter, and Jay (Halley) Hunter, both of Rock Port; grandsons, Rylan Hunter and Ethan Hunter; brother, Steve (Midge) Hunter, Rock Port, brothers-in-law, Mike (Ellie) Bailey and Jerry (Kathy Stemper) Bailey, both of Tucson, Arizona; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and special cousin, Karen (Kenny) Thompson, Coin, Iowa; special neighbors, David (Patty) Kemerling, and Jim Hickok.

Funeral Service: 10:30 A.M., Friday, August 16, 2024, Atchison County Memorial Building, Rock Port.
The family will receive friends from 9:30-10:30 A.M., Friday, prior to the service. Open visitation will begin 10:00 A.M., Thursday, August 15, Atchison County Memorial Building, Rock Port.
Interment: Hunter Cemetery, Rock Port.
Memorials: Rock Port Country Club.
Arrangements: Minter Funeral Chapel, Rock Port.
