Rowena E. (Rene) Smith, the daughter of Elmer and Sally (Flanagan) Harrington, was born August 23, 1931, in Fairfax, Missouri. She attended Fairfax High School.

In December 1968, Rene was united in marriage to Richard Smith. They made their home in Rock Port, Missouri, to the present time.

Rene owned and operated “Kiddie Kampus” day care in Rock Port for 27 years. During that time, she cared for 326 children. Rene and the day care children furnished teddy bears for children in Community Hospital-Fairfax and also to the police department for children in traumatic situations. She was dearly loved by the kids and their families.

Rene passed away Wednesday, October 4, 2017, at her home in Rock Port at the age of 86.

In addition to her parents, Rene was preceded in death by brothers, Wayne, Clyde and Dale Harrington, sister, Delpha Whitham, and nephew, Gavin McCall. Survivors include husband, Richard Smith, Rock Port; four sons, Roger Oswald and wife, Alice, Macclenny, Florida, Ron Oswald, Jacksonville, Florida, Kerry Oswald and wife, Lisa, Green Cove Springs, Florida, and Kim Smith, Bethany, Missouri; five grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; sister, Betty McCall and husband, Jake, Rock Port; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral Service: 10:00 A.M., Monday, October 9, 2017, Minter Funeral Chapel, Rock Port.
Interment: English Grove Cemetery, Fairfax, Missouri
Open visitation begins 10:00 A.M., Sunday, October 8, Minter Funeral Chapel. There is no scheduled family visitation.
