Roy Lee Simonds
1923 – 2007

 

Roy Lee Simonds, the son of Roy Sylvester and Lefa (Barger) Simonds, was born on December 6, 1923 in Rock Port, Missouri. He graduated from Lafayette High School in St. Joseph, Missouri.

 

On April 30, 1943 Roy entered the United States Army and served his country during World War II. After receiving his honorable discharge on January 21, 1946, Roy moved to Rolla, Missouri where he attended college, receiving his Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering. After completing his education, he moved to Tokyo, Japan.

 

On January 10, 1955, Roy was united in marriage to Sumiko Kawasyma, in Tokyo. They returned to the United States in 1957 and made their home in St. Joseph and numerous other communities. In 1960, they moved to Orlando, Florida where they lived to the present time. Roy passed away October 21, 2007 at Health Central, Ocoee, Florida, at the age of 83 years.

 

Besides his parents, Roy is preceded in death by two brothers; Alfred and Arnold Brown Simonds, and one sister; Lois Kelley. Roy is survived by his wife, Sumiko of the home, Orlando; two nephews John Kelley and his wife Annette, Boone, Iowa, and Joe Kelley and his wife Joyce, Glenwood, Minnesota.

 

Graveside Services and Burial:
4:00 pm Friday, October 26, 2007
Linden Cemetery, Rock Port.
Memorials may be directed to the Roy Simonds Memorial Fund.
Military Rites under the direction of Ralph Greer American Legion Post # 49.
Services under the direction of Minter Funeral Chapel, Rock Port.
