Shirley M. Dougherty, the daughter of Irven and Fern (Sanders) Allan, was born August 6, 1930 in Craig, Missouri. Shirley attended Craig High School, Craig, graduating in 1949.
On November 2, 1952, Shirley was united in marriage to Thomas L. Dougherty at the Craig Christian Church in Craig. They became the parents of one son, Mark and made their home west of Craig until moving to Nishnabotna, Missouri in 1957. Following the flood of 1993, they moved to Rock Port, Missouri.
Shirley was a homemaker and loved being a Farmer’s wife. She enjoyed bringing food to the field, growing a large garden, and driving the truck to unload grain.
Shirley was a dedicated member of First Christian Church where she served on numerous committees and sang in the choir. She was also a member of Rock Port P.E.O. Chapter DU and Lake Shore Club. Shirley was a former Atchison County election official. She enjoyed playing Bridge at the Rock Port Senior Center. Shirley passed away Friday, July 2, 2021 at Community Hospital-Fairfax, Fairfax, Missouri, at the age of 90.
Besides her parents and husband, Thomas Dougherty, Shirley was preceded in death by sister, Janet Burnsides and sister-in-law, Mary Ann Allan. Survivors include son, Mark (Patricia) Dougherty, St. Joseph, Missouri; grandson, Clinton (Mackenzie) Dougherty and step-grandson, Shawn Hendrix, Tampa, Florida; Rock Port; two great grandchildren, Audrey and Isaac Dougherty, Rock Port; brother, Stanley Allan, Platte City, Missouri; brother-in-law, Bill Burnsides, Mound City, Missouri; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Service: 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, July 7, 2021, First Christian Church, Rock Port.
Open visitation begins 9:00 A.M., Tuesday, July 6 where the family will receive friends from 6:00-7:00 P.M., Minter Funeral Chapel, Rock Port.
Interment: I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Craig, Missouri.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to First Christian Church, Rock Port or Rock Port Senior Center.
