Steve Van Meter passed away unexpectedly Sunday, February 11, 2018. He was born on January 21st, 1948, and grew up in Rock Port, Missouri. He was the son of Cecil and Helen (Rosenbohm) Van Meter. Steve graduated with a Master’s Degree in Agriculture Economics from the University of Missouri, Columbia, Missouri. He then went on to earn an MBA while living in Connecticut. Steve served in both the National Guard and Army Reserves.
Steve was the owner of Van Meter Appraisal in Overland Park, Kansas, for many years. Prior to that time, he worked in the Agriculture Department of Connecticut Mutual in Hartford and as a commodity broker at the Kansas City Board of Trade.
Steve was married to Eva Jo Mulvania on June 14, 1969, and they had two children, Doug and Kim. Steve was a life-long student of economics, an avid reader, loved the outdoors, could make any garden thrive, and delighted in his grandchildren. He was active in his church (COR Methodist), ushering for many years and volunteering with other groups there including Habitat for Humanity.
He was predeceased by his father, Cecil, sister, Patricia, brother, Gordon, and infant granddaughter, Ruth. Steve is survived by his wife, Eva Jo Van Meter, Overland Park; mother, Helen Van Meter, Olathe, Kansas, children, Doug (Rebecca) Van Meter, Overland Park, and Kim (John) Fulkerson, Salina, Kansas; grandchildren, Judson and Mary Van Meter and Will, Isabel, and Mya Fulkerson; and numerous extended family.
Steve was known for being a wonderful husband, son, father, and grandfather. He will be missed dearly by his family and friends who are comforted by his steadfast faith in Christ.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, February 15th at 9:30 AM with service following at 10:30 AM in the Wesley Chapel of The Church of the Resurrection 13720 Roe Avenue, Leawood, Kansas. A graveside service will be held at Grange Hall Cemetery in Rock Port, Missouri, on Friday, February 16th at 11:30 AM. Memorials may be made to Habitat for Humanity or the Salvation Army.
