“Turk” Irvin R. Brought, the son of George Henry and Maggie May (Asbury) Brought was born October 18, 1921 in Rock Port, Missouri. Turk attended the Mount Pleasant Country School.

 

On October 2, 1942 Turk enlisted in the United States Army and served his country during World War II.

 

On December 14, 1943, Turk was united in marriage to Dorothy Irene Olson. They made their home in Rock Port where Turk was employed as a mechanic and heavy equipment operator. Turk was later employed by the City of Rock Port retiring in 1983. Turk was a loving caregiver for many years to his wife, Dorothy, before her death in 2005. They were often seen together riding around town and in the country enjoying the scenery. Turk passed away Wednesday, January 17, 2007, at Northview Manor Nursing Home, Tarkio, Missouri, following a courageous battle with cancer at the age of 85 years.

 

Turk was a member of First Lutheran Church, Rock Port, and a 57-year member of Ralph Greer American Legion Post #49, Rock Port.

 

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Linda Brought, Greenville, South Carolina; daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Elmer Davis, Rock Port, five grandchildren; Sheri McGrew, Albion, Washington, Amy Tryban, Leawood, Kansas, Tracey Garst, Watson, Missouri, Jeremy Davis and Andrea Proctor, both of Rock Port, 12 great grandchildren, sister-in-law, Rosie Olson, and brother-in-law, Leo Olson, both of Rock Port, and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

Besides his parents, Turk was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Dorothy, four sisters, and two brothers.

 

Graveside Services and Burial were held at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, January 20, 2007, Greenhill Cemetery, Rock Port. Memorials may be directed to the Rock Port First Responders or Rock Port Nutrition Center.
Military rites were under the auspices of Ralph Greer American Legion Post #49, Rock Port.
