Velma Lucille (Twitty) Tolby, the daughter of Alvis and Mary (Shelton) Twitty, was born September 29, 1923 in Ava, Missouri. On December 22, 1942, she was united in marriage to Louis Dwight Tolby and two this union two daughters were born, Geraldine Minner of Wichita, Kansas and Gail Kirtley of Newton, Kansas. Velma spent most of her life in the Rock Port area, working at P.M. Place Company as a cashier for 25 years. She retired in February 1991, and shortly thereafter moved to Newton to be closer her family. Velma was a former member of the Rock Port Baptist Church and a present member of the First Baptist Church in Newton.

She passed away on March 21, 2008 at Kansas Christian Nursing Home in Newton. Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Dwight, three sisters and two brothers. Velma is survived by two daughters, five grandchildren, three great grandchildren, one sister, three brothers, nieces, nephews, other family members and many friends.

Graveside Services and Interment: Monday, March 24, 2008, 2:00 pm.,
Linden Cemetery, Rock Port, Missouri.
There is no scheduled family visitation.
Memorials: First Baptist Church, Newton, Kansas.

Services are under the direction of Minter Funeral Chapel, Rock Port.
