Virgil C. Flake
1921-2011
Canon City, Colorado

 

Virgil C. Flake, the son of Fred and Ora (Case) Flake was born on July 8, 1921, in Ramona, Oklahoma.

 

Virgil was united in marriage to Gladys (Kunkel) Flake on January 23, 1940 at the parsonage in Fairfax, Missouri. To this union, two children were born, Loretta Kay and Allen Lee. After their marriage, they farmed in the Holt County area.

 

In 1953, Virgil and Gladys moved to Tarkio, Missouri, where they owned and operated a television and appliance store and a plumbing, heating and electrical business, until retiring in 1986. In 1995, they moved to Canon City, Colorado, to be near family. Virgil passed away on October 9, 2011, at his home in Canon City, at the age of 90.

 

Besides his parents and wife, Gladys, Virgil was preceded in death by daughter, Loretta Walker; great-granddaughter, Angela East; and sister, Irene Pruitt. Survivors include, son, Allen Flake, Canon City, Colorado; five grandchildren, Kristin Flake, Michelle Flake, Jill East, Cindy Gabel and Rodney Walker; sisters, Margene Bell and Marie Singleton; brother, Wilbur Flake; eleven great-grandchildren; twelve great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

Graveside Services and Interment: 11:00 A.M., Saturday, October 15, 2011, at the New Liberty Baptist Cemetery, Mound City.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 P.M., Friday, October 14, 2011, at Davis Funeral Home, Tarkio.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Sangre de Cristo Hospice-West, Canon City, Colorado.
