Virgil C. Watts
1919 – 2015
Rock Port, Missouri

 

Virgil C. Watts, the son of Vern Clayton and Alice (Starks) Watts, was born June 14, 1919, in Nodaway, Iowa. He attended Nodaway schools, graduating in 1936.

 

On September 20, 1941, Virgil was united in marriage to Katherine J. Stickerod in Bethany, Missouri. They married in secret just before Virg entered the military so that Kate could finish high school. On October 21, 1941, Virg entered the United States Navy and proudly served his country overseas in Saipan. He was honorably discharged on October 26, 1945.

 

Virg owned and operated Watts Cleaners in Rock Port, Missouri. Watts Cleaners was a fixture on Main Street of Rock Port, providing hard work and quality service to all of their customers. Virg retired in 1984. He was an active member of the First Christian Church in Rock Port, where he served as elder and taught Sunday school. Virg was a former member of the Rock Port Chapter #440, Order of the Eastern Star and served on the Fair Oaks Board of Directors. He was a member of the Ralph Greer American Legion Post # 49, Rock Port and the Rock Port Golf and Country Club. Virg passed away Sunday, January 11, 2015, at Pleasant View Nursing Home, Rock Port, at the age of 95.

 

Virg was a committed Christian man and regularly shared his relationship with Jesus. Every Christmas season, he volunteered his time to raise money for the Salvation Army.

 

Besides his parents, Virg was preceded in death by daughter, Cecelia Watts, 1970; sister, Virginia Mathews; and brothers, Russell and Robert Watts. Survivors include wife, Katherine Watts, Rock Port; brother, Howard Watts, Branson, Missouri; sisters-in-law, Joan Watts, Villisca, Iowa and Annabelle Bailey, Garland, Texas; brother-in-law, David Stickerod, Rockville, Maryland; and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

FUNERAL SERVICE:
10:30 A.M., Wednesday, January 14, 2015, First Christian Church, Rock Port.
INTERMENT: Linden Cemetery, Rock Port.
There is no scheduled family visitation.
