Virginia E. Carlton went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, September 28, 2013, at the Tarkio Rehabilitation and Health Care Center, at the age of 91 years, 11 months and 18 days. She was the daughter of Newton Lewis and Mabel Ellen {Davison} Harvey and was born October 10, 1921 in Quinton, Oklahoma. When she was two years old, she moved with her family to the Graham, Missouri area, and then graduated from Graham High School in 1939.

 

On August 9, 1939, Virginia was united in marriage to Patrick Paul Vogel at Oregon, Holt County, Missouri. They farmed in the northwest area of Missouri and became the parents of five children, Ronnie, Patty, Ginny, Bill and Susie. Virginia was dedicated to her family, farm chores, gardening, canning, growing flowers and enjoyed sewing. She was a member of the Tarkio First Baptist Church and enjoyed participating in church activities. She was a former member of the 49er’s Club while living in the Elk Dale school area. Pat died June 23, 1962. Virginia then married Delmon Carlton on January 1, 1964, at the Fairfax Baptist Church in Fairfax, Missouri.

 

Besides her parents and husbands, Patrick and Delmon, she is preceded in death by a son, Ronald { Ronnie} Vogel, three sisters, Margaret Harvey, Jean Linville, and Adele Agee, a brother, Phillip Harvey, and a great nephew, Mike Walk. Survivors include her children; Patty Norrell, Lakin, Kansas, Ginny McAdams, Kansas City, Missouri, Bill Vogel Sr., Platte City, Missouri, Susie Roberts and son-in-law, Jerry, Tarkio; nine grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, four great great grandchildren, five step grandchildren, twelve step great grandchildren, eight step great great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews, her nursing home roommate, Janet Knight, and a special companion, Katie, {her Chihuahua Miniature Pinscher}.

 

Funeral Service:
1:00 P.M., Wednesday, October 2, 2013, First Baptist Church, Tarkio.
Interment: Prairie Home Cemetery, Graham, Missouri.
Memorials: Virginia E. Carlton Memorial Fund.
The family will receive friends 11:30 A.M. – 1:00 P.M. at First Baptist Church, prior to the funeral.
