Virginia M. Nance
May 13, 1916 - May 1, 2008
Virginia M. (Stoner) Nance, the daughter of Ernest Harry and Myrtle Catherine (Parker) Stoner was born May 13, 1916 on the Stoner family farm northwest of Rock Port, Missouri. She attended Fairview Country School and graduated from Rock Port High School in 1935. Virginia attended St. Joseph’s School of Nursing, St. Joseph, Missouri, graduating in 1939. She continued employment at St. Joseph’s Hospital, until entering the United States Army Nurses Corp on September 16, 1943. She proudly served her country as a First Lieutenant during World War II, receiving her honorable discharge on January 11, 1947.
In 1948, Virginia was united in marriage to David Nance. They made their home in Kansas City, Missouri, where Virginia was employed with St. Luke’s Hospital. In 1971, they moved to Tucson, Arizona where they owned and operated a motel and trailer park. David passed away in 1981. Virginia continued living in Tucson until March of 2007 when she returned to Rock Port. Virginia passed away May 1, 2008 at the Pleasant View Nursing Home, Rock Port, at the age of 91 years.
Virginia loved traveling and enjoyed taking many cruises. She also enjoyed pets and was a devoted member of the 22nd Street Baptist Church in Tucson.
Besides her parents and husband David, Virginia is preceded in death by her brother, John Stoner. Survivors include her niece, Pat Whitham, Rock Port; two great nieces, Candy Taylor, Rock Port and Lou Ann Pennel and husband Roger, Fairfax, Missouri; two great nephews, Scott Leseberg and his wife Julie, Rock Port and Mike Leseberg and wife Carrie, St. Joseph, Missouri.
Graveside services and Interment: Saturday, May 3, 2008, 1:00 pm, High Creek Cemetery, Watson, Missouri.
There is no visitation.
Memorials: Pleasant View Nursing Home, Rock Port.
Military Rites are under the auspice of Ralph Greer American Legion Post #49, Rock Port.
