Walter David Rhoades, Jr., the son of Walter David, Sr. and Helen Melissa (Powers) Rhoades was born May 18, 1948 in rural Tarkio, Missouri. David attended school in Council Bluffs, Iowa and Lincoln, Nebraska.

 

On March 25, 1969, David was united in marriage to Shirley Ann Umbarger. They made their home in Fairfax, Missouri where they lived to the present time. David worked construction and as a welder for Lonnie Nance in Tarkio. They also moved houses and railroad depots along the tracks from Atchison County to Council Bluffs, Iowa. He was later employed by Buford Stoner in Fairfax as a blacksmith and welder, until ill health forced his retirement. David passed away Wednesday, August 8, 2007 at his home in Fairfax at the age of 59 years.

 

David enjoyed fishing on the river, hunting for deer, squirrel, rabbit, coyote and raccoons. He also enjoyed playing poker.

 

Besides his parents, David was preceded in death by one brother, Ralph Eugene Rhoades, and one sister, Diane Marie Bartlett. Survivors include his wife Shirley, Fairfax; four sons, Jeffery David Rhoades and his wife Patti, Shenandoah, Iowa, Victor Preston Rhoades, Bowling Green, Missouri, Jeremy Wayne Rhoades, Rock Port, Missouri and Christopher Daniel Bartlett and his wife Alison, Warrington, Oregon; six grandchildren, Sara Nicole Rhoades, David Lee Cobb, Elizabeth Marie Rhoades, Jeremy Wayne Rhoades, Jr., David John Bartlett, and Layci Diane Bartlett; one sister, Sharon Dale and her husband David, Council Bluffs, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

 

Graveside Services and Burial: Saturday, August 11, 2007, 10:00 a.m. at English Grove Cemetery, Fairfax.
The family will receive friends, Friday, August 10, 2007, 7:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Minter Funeral Chapel in Rock Port, Missouri.
