Walter Lowell Mulvania, the son of Jesse L. and Eva Viola (Stewart) Mulvania, was born September 20, 1905, near Phelps City, Missouri. Walter graduated from Rock Port High School in 1923. He became a student at William Jewell College, Liberty, Missouri, graduating with a Political Science degree in 1927. He attended the University of Missouri Law School, Columbia, Missouri, graduating in 1931, and later was awarded a Juris Doctorate. Walter practiced law in Rock Port, Missouri from 1931 until 2005. He was a prominent and highly respected attorney in Northwest Missouri for 74 years, before retiring at the age of 100.

 

Walter proudly served his country in the Army from 1943 to 1945 during World War II in the 91st Regiment Infantry.

 

On January 31, 1945, Walter was united in marriage to Eunice Mary Umbarger. They made their home in Rock Port, became the parents of one daughter, Eva Jo, and were happily married for 57 years. Eunice passed away May 6, 2002. Walter passed away July 24, 2007 at the Carondelet Manor Nursing Home in Kansas City, Missouri at the age of 101 years.

 

Walter was a member of the Rock Port Rotary Club (since 1946), serving as president for two terms and of the Ralph Greer American Legion Post #49. He was a faithful member and former Deacon of the Rock Port Baptist Church. He served as the Rock Port City Attorney for many years, Atchison County Prosecuting Attorney, the Rock Port Telephone Company Attorney and as the attorney for the Atchison County Library. He served three terms with the Missouri Board of Governors, was an active member of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel, and the Community Hospital Board, Fairfax, Missouri. Walter was instrumental in establishing the legal aspects of the Missouri Beef Packers, Rock Port.

 

Besides his parents and wife Eunice, Walter was preceded in death by three brothers: Laurel, Mitchell and Allen; and one sister, Leola. Walter is survived by his daughter, Eva Jo Van Meter and her husband Steve, Overland Park, Kansas; grandchildren, Doug Van Meter and his wife Rebecca, Overland Park, Kansas; Kim Fulkerson and her husband John, Salina, Kansas; great-grandchildren, Judson and Mary Van Meter, and Will and Isabel Fulkerson.

 

Funeral Services: 11:00 am Saturday, July 28, 2007, Rock Port Baptist Church, Rock Port, Missouri.
Burial: Greenhill Cemetery, Rock Port, Missouri.
The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall of the Baptist Church at 10:00 am prior to the service on Saturday.
Memorials: Rock Port Baptist Church or Community Hospital, Fairfax, Missouri.
Military Flag Presentation under the auspices of Ralph Greer American Legion Post #49.
Services are under the direction of Minter Funeral Chapel, Rock Port, Missouri.
