Warren Dean Lyden, the son of Paul W. and Hazel E. (Shaffer) Lyden, was born October 9, 1934 in Shenandoah, Iowa. He attended Shenandoah public schools, graduating in 1952.
In 1953, Warren was united in marriage to Betty Larkin and they became the parents of four sons. They were later divorced. In 1971, Warren was united in marriage to Gretta Boettner, they were later divorced. Warren and Helen Simmons were united in marriage in 1990, living in Rock Port, Missouri to the present time.
After graduation, Warren worked for local nursery’s and farmers, then began working as a carpenter. He did carpentry work in Omaha, Nebraska, and Council Bluffs and Carter Lake, Iowa. Upon returning to Shenandoah, Warren was employed by the Home Building Company. Following an injury in 1964, Warren was employed by the United States Postal Service in Shenandoah. He later transferred to Omaha, then to Rock Port, retiring in 1992, after 27 years of service. Upon his retirement, he resumed working as a carpenter, eventually retiring in 2001. Throughout his construction career, Warren built approximately 40 homes.
Warren was a member of the United Methodist Church in Shenandoah; Odd Fellows of Shenandoah, and the National Guard for a short period of time. Warren passed away April 20, 2009 at Community Hospital-Fairfax, Missouri at the age of 74 years.
Besides his parents, Warren is preceded in death by his son, Kent A. Lyden; one grandson, Alex Lyden; three sisters, Phyllis Kempton, Mary Ann Regan and Eloise Vodila; two brothers, Charles M. Lyden and Paul Eugene Lyden. Warren is survived by his wife, Helen, Rock Port; three sons, Larry D. Lyden, Casper, Wyoming, David L. Lyden and his wife, Annette, Diagonal, Iowa and Michael W. Lyden and Ronda, Red Oak, Iowa; one step daughter, Linda Barrett and her husband, Dean, Lincoln, Nebraska; two step sons, Todd Simmons, Lincoln and Kevin Simmons, Red Oak; six grandchildren; three step grandchildren; thirteen step great-grandchildren; one step great-great-grandchild.
Graveside Service and Interment: 1:00 pm, Thursday, April 23, 2009 at Hunter Cemetery, Rock Port.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:00 pm, Wednesday, April 22, 2009 at Minter Funeral Chapel, Rock Port.
