William Henry “Hank” Smith, the son of George Vernon and Edna Jaenette (McFarlane) Smith, was born April 5, 1941, in Tarkio, Missouri. Hank graduated from Tarkio High School in 1959 and attended Tarkio College for two years.
On August 24, 1963, Hank was united in marriage to Shirley K. Gilchrist. They became the parents of two daughters, Susan and Melissa, and made their home in Shenandoah, Iowa, for a year. They later divorced.
In 1964, the family returned to Tarkio, where Hank was employed by Farm and City Supply. In 1966, they moved to Ferguson, Missouri, where Hank was employed with Troop C, of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, in the driver’s examination division and was later transferred to Wentzville, Missouri. After leaving the patrol, Hank was employed by Dickherber Heating and Air Conditioning and later for a heating, ventilation, and air conditioning firm in St. Louis County. In 1978, Hank returned to Tarkio and established Smith Plumbing and Heating. In 1984, Hank became the proud father of Erica Taylor. Later, Hank was employed by Northwest Missouri Industries as a rest area supervisor until his retirement. Hank enjoyed woodworking and hand crafted his grandson’s baby cradle. He was a former member of the Wentzville and Tarkio Lions Club and was a former Tarkio Volunteer Fireman and Fire Chief.
On September 15, 2001, Hank was united in marriage to Diane Littles. Diane passed away May 4, 2007. On October 23, 2009, Hank was united in marriage to Kimberly Corbin. They made their home in Tarkio to the present time. Hank passed away Wednesday, May 7, 2014, at Bryan LGH East Hospital, Lincoln, Nebraska, at the age of 73.
Besides his parents, Hank was preceded in death by wife, Diane. Survivors include wife, Kim, Tarkio; five children, Susan Smith and Linda Mason, Rogersville, Missouri, Melissa White and fiancée, Bob Whitehill, and Erica Taylor, all of Tarkio, Clinton Livings and wife, Leann, Oak Grove, Missouri, Krista Robinson and husband, Chris, Montreal, Missouri; twelve grandchildren, Spencer, Kelsey and Bryce White, C.J. Jean, Bryce Clark, Mychaela and Tristan Robinson, Baleigh, Caleb, Trevor, Payton and Kendra Dallas Livings; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Memorial Service: 11:00 A.M., Saturday, May 17, 2014, Davis Funeral Home, Tarkio.
A private family inurnment will be held at a later date at Home Cemetery, Tarkio.
The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00 A.M., Saturday, May 17, 2014, prior to the service at Davis Funeral Home.
