William L. Henry, Sr.
1924 – 2014
Rock Port, Missouri

 

William L. “Bill” Henry, Sr., the son of Thomas D. and Nellie (Forney) Henry, was born August 7, 1924, in St. Joseph, Missouri. He attended a one room country school in Fillmore, Missouri, graduating from Oregon High School, Oregon, Missouri, in 1941. Bill also attended University of Missouri in Columbia, before proudly serving his country in the United States Navy as a Merchant Marine during World War II.

 

Following Bill’s return from the war, he purchased a small farm in Loveland, Colorado, where he trucked fresh produce to the local farmer’s market. While working at the local bank, he also attended banking school at night. In 1949, Bill was united in marriage to Joan D. Bruce for 30 years and they became the parents of Georgia, Cherri and Bill, Jr. A devoted family man, Bill shared with his children the love of the outdoors, camping, fishing, hunting and gardening.

 

Bill was employed in banking in numerous locations and when the US Bank of Oregon bought the local bank in Hood River, Oregon, he became the youngest bank manager in their system at the age of 29. Bill retired in 1983 as a Senior Vice President of US Bank and the Chief Credit Officer for the Central Region of Oregon.

 

On August 7, 1993, Bill was united in marriage to Betty Rosenbohm at the United Methodist Church in Philomath, Oregon. They enjoyed traveling and spending the winters in Yuma, Arizona, where they later made their home. In 2011, they moved to Rock Port to be closer to family and friends. Bill passed away Friday, November 28, 2014, at Pleasant View Nursing Home, Rock Port, at the age of 90.

 

Bill was a member of numerous banking organizations, as well as Kiwanis, Rotary and the Salvation Army. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Rock Port.

 

Besides his parents, Bill was preceded in death by daughter, Georgia Henry; and brother, Raymond Henry. Survivors include wife, Betty, Rock Port; daughter, Cherri Hong and husband, Peter, Steilacoom, Washington; son, Bill L. Henry, Jr, and wife, Marsha, Yuma, Arizona; step-daughter, Judy Sutter; grandchildren, Michelle Calvert, Michael Knight, Me Ra Tausend, Shae and Shaun Hong; step-grandchildren, Rae Ann Kingsley and Julie Moody; eight great-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

 

Funeral Service: 2:00 P.M., Thursday, December 4, 2014, Rock Port United Methodist Church.
Interment: Hunter Cemetery, Rock Port.
Open visitation will begin 9:00 A.M., Wednesday, December 3, 2014, at Minter Funeral Chapel, Rock Port. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 P.M., Thursday, prior to the service, at Rock Port United Methodist Church.
