William Louis Andrews, the son of Vernon Thain and Dorothy Lee (Gibson) Andrews, was born April 18, 1946 in St. Joseph, Missouri. He attended Union Star High School, graduating in 1964. In 1968, Bill obtained his Bachelor of Science degree from Northwest Missouri State University, Maryville, Missouri, and his Masters degree in 1971.

 

On May 14, 1971, Bill was united in marriage to Darlene Marie Smith in Oak, Missouri and they became the parents of three children.

 

Bill taught and coached at Craig, Missouri, High School and Maysville, Missouri, High School, and was a counselor for Missouri Vocational Rehabilitation in St. Joseph for 11 years. In 1983, the family moved to Rock Port, Missouri, where Bill was the high school principal for three years. In 1986, he took over the Atchison County Agency for State Farm Insurance and enjoyed serving his clients for the past 23 years. Bill passed away Friday, August 21, 2009 at the Nebraska Medical Center, Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 63 years.

 

A lifelong competitor, Bill excelled at fast pitch softball many years of his adult life for teams across northwest Missouri. During that same time, he was an avid bird hunter, taking most winter weekends to hunt with family and friends. For the last two decades, Bill was a familiar face on the fairways and greens from Kansas City to Lincoln and served on the board of the Rock Port Golf and Country Club for many years. Also, Bill was a charter member of the Rock Port Optimist Club and a former member of the Rock Port Park Board for nearly 16 years. He recently served on the Community Hospital-Fairfax Board and the Nebraska Regional Hospital Medical Board. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Rock Port, and coached his own children’s ball teams for many years, along with numerous other teams in the Rock Port area.

 

Survivors include his wife, Darlene, of the home in Rock Port; sons, Cort William Andrews, Leavenworth, Kansas, and Hugh Jason Andrews and his wife, Sarah, Parkville, Missouri; daughter, Nicole Marie Hagman and her husband, Erick, Grand Rapids, Michigan; seven grandchildren, Grace, Kayla, William, Emma, Gibson, Owen and Mazzie; parents, Vernon and Dorothy Andrews, Helena, Missouri; and sister, Marcia Irwin and her husband, Rick, Tomball, Texas.

 

Memorial Service:
10:00 am, Monday, August 24, 2009, First Lutheran Church, Rock Port.
A private family inurnment will be held at a later date.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 23, 2009 from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm at Minter Funeral Chapel, Rock Port.
Memorials: Community Hospital-Fairfax or Rock Port Optimist Club.
Services under the direction of Minter Funeral Chapel, Rock Port.
