Wilma M. Peregrine
1916 – 2007

 

Wilma Marie (Schaefer) Peregrine, the daughter of John Carl and Gertrude (Schuetz) Schaefer was born July 15, 1916 in Mercier, Kansas. She attended school in Mercier, Kansas. On January 20, 1937, Wilma was united in marriage to Earl Joseph Peregrine at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Mercier. To this union four children were born, Earl, Jr., Dolly, William and JoAnn. They made their home in Skidmore, Missouri, Tarkio, Missouri, and in 1946 moved to the family farm in Elmo, Missouri, where Wilma lived to the present time. Earl passed away June 30, 1997. Wilma passed away Tuesday, July 3, 2007 at Community Hospital, Fairfax, Missouri, at the age of 90 years.

 

Wilma enjoyed life and always said she would never act old. She was a devoted wife who took care of her ill husband for 16 years. She enjoyed the farm, growing flowers, camping, and quilting, making over 100 quilts for her family. Her greatest joy was spending time with her children and grandchildren, as well as her numerous nieces and nephews. Wilma was especially looking forward to the birth of two new great-grandchildren.

 

Wilma was a member of the St. Paul’s Catholic Church, the Altar Society, and the Lone Star Club, all of Tarkio, and was a former member of the Lend A Hand Club, Tarkio.

 

Besides her parents and husband Earl, Wilma was preceded in death by one son Earl Joseph Peregrine, Jr., February 14, 2003, one brother Harold Schaefer, sisters Mary Kammon and Teresa Richling, and infant twin sisters Doris and Delores Schaefer. Survivors include, daughter, Dolly Thomson and her husband Richard, Tarkio, son, William J. Peregrine and his wife Cathie, Burlington Jct., Missouri, daughter, JoAnn B. Freeman and her husband Don, Nixa, Missouri; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; five brothers, Vernon Schaefer, Blanchard, Iowa, Howard Schaefer and Leo Schaefer both of Horton, Kansas, Lloyd Schaefer and his wife Virginia, Effingham, Kansas, Kenneth Schaefer and his wife Mona, Tulsa, Oklahoma; two sisters, Thelma McGee, Lancaster, Kansas, Rose Marie Willis and her husband Bill, Horton, Kansas, and two special neighbors Izetta Castello and Ruby Farley.

 

MASS OF THE CHRISTIAN BURIAL: Friday, July 6, 2007 at 10:30 am, St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Tarkio, MO
Interment: Tarkio Home Cemetery, Tarkio
A Prayer Service will be held July 5, 2007 from 6:30 to 7:00 pm at the Davis Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends immediately following from 7:00 to 8:00 pm.
