Winifred Lorene John, the daughter of William Hollis and Agnes (Thompson) Murphy was born on April 26, 1928, in Tarkio. She graduated from Maryville High School, Maryville, Missouri, in 1946.

On June 1, 1946, Winnie, was united in marriage to Russell Lorraine John, in Troy, Kansas. To their union were born four children, Daniel, Nancy, Mary Beth and Jo. They moved from Maryville to Tarkio in 1975. Winnie passed away Saturday, February 19, 2011, at Pleasant View Nursing Home, Rock Port, Missouri.

Winnie was a member of the Tarkio United Methodist Church and was a former Cub Scout and Brownie Mother.

Besides her parents Winnie was preceded in death by her husband, Russell, in 1986.

Survivors include one son, Daniel Hollis John, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; three daughters, Nancy S. (Dennis) Smith, St. Joseph, Missouri, Mary Beth (Harlan) Peterson, Aurora, Iowa, and Jo (Bruce) Lang, Tarkio; nine grandchildren, Eric, Adam, Noah, Katie, Emily, Polly, Kevin, John and Melissa; four great-grandchildren; and one brother, William H. (Marian) Murphy, Jr., Macon, Georgia.

Graveside Memorial Service and Inurnment: 10:00 A.M., Saturday, May 5, 2012, Home Cemetery, Tarkio.
