Carol Ann and I really enjoyed music together. She was a wonderful talent on the clarinet and with her voice. She was hospitalized once at the KU Medical Center when I was a medical student. She had just undergone a liver biopsy and was not feeling too good. She did, however, show me the copper rings around her corneas, a dead ringer for Wilson's disease. It was unfortunate that she was allergic to penicillamine, the best drug to treat Wilson's disease. I am amazed that she survived this long.

Carol was a neighbor when we lived on College Avenue and later on 11th St. She was a smart, spirited person in high school, a talented musician and one of whom all expected great things. She had many struggles in life, and now she is at peace with the Lord.
