Donald Edgar Adams, the son of William Bryant and Tressa Gladys (Smith) Adams, was born June 29, 1929 in Hamburg, Iowa. He graduated from Rock Port High School, then earned his diploma from Chillicothe Business College, Chillicothe, Missouri.

 

Don entered the United States Army and proudly served his country during the Korean War. Following his honorable discharge in 1953, Don was employed with the Burlington Northern Railroad, where he was a telegrapher and depot agent until his retirement in 1988.

 

In 1960, Don was united in marriage to Janett (Evans) Traub, and adopted her two daughters, Michelle and Sharolyn. He was a member of the Tarkio United Methodist Church and a life member of both the Allen-Schiffern American Legion Post # 199 and 40/8 Voiture 1402, where he served as Grand Chef for the state of Missouri.

 

Don enjoyed wood crafting and restoring antiques and furniture. His carpentry skills were known by many throughout the community. In September of 2008, he began residing in Golden Living Center in Maryville, Missouri. On March 24, 2009, Don passed away at St. Francis Hospital in Maryville at the age of 79 years.

 

Besides his parents, Don was preceded in death by his brother, William Gene Adams. Survivors include his wife, Janett, of their home in Tarkio; daughters, Michelle Halferty, Kansas City, Missouri and Sharolyn Adams, Tarkio; three grandchildren, Tressa Whittington and her husband, Kory Wallinga, Louisville, Kentucky, Ryan Halferty, Los Angeles, California and Erin Bonomo and her husband, Mike, Kansas City, Missouri.

 

Graveside Memorial Services and Inurnment: 2:00 pm, Saturday, March 28, 2009 at Home Cemetery, Tarkio.
The family will receive friends 7:00 – 8:00 pm, Friday, March 27, 2009 at Davis Funeral Home, Tarkio.
Memorials: Allen-Schiffern American Legion Post # 199 or 40 + 8 Nurses Scholarship.
