Edward F. Bare, the son of William and Abagail (Faler) Bare was born February 24, 1924, in Douglass, Kansas. In the 1940’s, he served his country in the United States Army Air Corps. After his military service during World War 2, he received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Kansas University. Later he earned his MD degree from the School of Medicine of Kansas University. His medical internship was served at Kansas City General Hospital.
In 1950, Edward and Emmadee (Dee) Bray were married in Kansas City. In 1953, they moved to Tarkio, Missouri, where he began his medical practice and proudly and compassionately served as a physician and citizen in the community. Here they raised their children, Marilyn, Elise and Wes.
He served as Chairman of the medical staff at Community Hospital in Fairfax, Missouri, and was also responsible for establishing the first continuing medical education program for physicians in the area. Dr. Bare was one of the founders of the Atchison County Health Center in Tarkio and was Chairman of the Board for many years. Additionally, he was a member of the Board of Directors of American Bank of Northwest Missouri, and was a member of the Tarkio United Methodist Church.
Edward retired from his medical practice in 1989. After his retirement, Edward and Dee enjoyed traveling, dancing and spending the winters in Gulf Shores, Alabama. He also was an enthusiast of photography and sports cars. Upon Dee’s passing in 1998, he met and married Shirley Ferguson. In their later years, Edward and Shirley moved to Overland Park, Kansas, to be near his family. Shirley passed away in 2013. Edward passed away October 12, 2017, in Overland Park, Kansas, at the age of 93.
In addition to his parents, Edward was preceded in death by his two siblings, Lois Jernigan and Wayne Bare. Survivors include his children, Marilyn Bier and her husband, Stan, Overland Park, Elise Hiatt, Kansas City, Missouri and Wes Bare, Independence, Missouri; two grandchildren, Monica Hoffman and Ryan Bier; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral Service: 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, October 17, 2017, United Methodist Church, Tarkio.
Interment: Home Cemetery, Tarkio.
Open visitation: 9:00 A.M., Monday, October 16, Davis Funeral Home, Tarkio. The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00 A.M., Tuesday, prior to the service at the United Methodist Church.
