As Mr. Kagay said, we in Shenandoah had the great good fortune to know Mrs. Rhodes. I had her for upper English classes during the early part of her teaching career at SHS. As well as having quite a sense of humor herself, she appreciated the humor of high school students. It was a pleasure to go to her class, anticipation growing on each of the 3,684 steps to the Crow's Nest for her classes--you knew that whatever was coming that day was going to be good. My sympathies and condolences to her family. Cindy Simpson Drake, SHS '68.

My prayers and condolences are with you all. Elsie Fae was my Humanities Teacher in SHS. She was an awesome teacher. She made me think about things differently. She will be missed. Heaven gained an angel. Should be a party going on, there are fabulous souls up there!

Mary Beth and family, I want to share my condolences to all of you for the loss of your mother. I so much enjoyed her visits to the dental office and especially when she invited Jody and myself for lunch to see her home in Tarkio. We had such a great visit and learning about her home and family. Elsie Fay will be greatly missed my many. Prayers for all of you. Barb Cox

I have always felt like part of your family and loved both of your parents dearly. I know Billy Dale will miss her too as he enjoyed watching her cruise down the hallway at the nursing home! She always knew me when I visited. I ordered a brick for her in TCAA's Memorial Garden in front of Rankin. I had ordered one for Dusty a number of years ago, and they will be placed side-by-side. So many fun memories over the years. On TCAA's FB page recently we had been remembering the dances at the College, especially when Neil and Diane were here. Those were the days, my friends. She was a joy!

We had the good fortune to know Elsie Fae when she taught with us at Shenandoah High School. She was an admirable person in every sense of the word. She was well read in the best literature of the world, and she had a quote for every situation. She had a sense of humor that her students loved. Over her classroom door she painted the words "All hope abandon, ye who enter." Her students didn't take it very seriously and they entered with the hope of learning new and interesting things. We will never forget the parties that she hosted for the faculty in Tarkio. She had a sense of the dramatic. We still see in our memory an image of her waitresses in costumes serving food on grape leaves in her outdoor garden. In her gathering at the Tarkio Inn, she waited to make her appearance until all the guests had arrived. Then she regally descended the stairs flanked by two muscular bodyguards in costume. They had been instructed to not smile, and they didn't. Our children still remember our visits to her beautiful home and discovering secrets. We are all richer people for having known her. Our condolences to her family and to the many, many people who will mourn her passing.

to Elsie's family= Jim=have not seen you in years and Mary Beth==missed you at the cancelled alumni banquet this year==so sorry to read of Elsie's passing. the couple of times in the past when I stopped into the nursing home to see her==she always thought I was Bob McCoy= rather than confuse her I went along with her. always enjoyed her articles in the Avalanche. I remember my mother (Margrette Smith=later knowm as Margo) talking about some of the things that the girls of the class of 1939 did and got away with. I think Elsie is the last one of that group of Tarkio girls and those secrets went with her to the grave. She was always fun to "banter" with when ever I would see her in Tarkio. Her passing truly marks the end of an era!! sincerely, L.G. Weathermon
