Jake McCall, Jr., the son of Jake, Sr. and Amanda Blanche (Johnson) McCall, was born on October 7, 1931, in Rock Port, Missouri. Jake attended country schools in the Rock Port area, Rock Port High School, and graduated from Fairfax High School, Fairfax, Missouri in 1950.

On September 21, 1950, Jake entered the United States Navy, where he served his country during the Korean War. He was stationed aboard the aircraft carrier USS Rendova CVE 114, where he served in the Marshall Islands and participated in the atomic test in Operation Ivy. Jake received his honorable discharge on September 1, 1954. While serving his country, Jake received the Korean Service Ribbon with three stars for major campaigns: China Service Ribbon, United Nations Service Ribbon and Good Conduct Medal. In 2007, he received the Korean War Service Medal from the Republic of Korea.

On February 28, 1954, Jake was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart and best friend, Betty Ann Harrington. They were blessed with a son, Gavin Brett and a daughter, Cheryl Dynette. Their lives were forever changed when they lost Gavin in 1982.  Later, Jake was blessed with two loving grandchildren, Brett Jacob “B.J.” Floyd and Andrea Blair (Floyd) Jaworski. The grandkids turned things around for Grandpa, giving him back that twinkle in his eyes.

After returning home from the Navy, Jake farmed south of Rock Port for three years. He was in business with Phillips Petroleum for fifteen years, then built and operated Jake’s Towing and Repair for six years. In 1988, Jake and Betty purchased Jake’s Car Wash and added the storage units. Jake was employed as a Weight Inspector with Missouri State Highway Patrol, retiring after sixteen years of service. Although he retired from his job, he never retired from working. He was caretaker of the English Grove Cemetery, Fairfax, from 1980 to 2009 and took much pride in his work. After he resigned from the cemetery, Jake remarked more than once, he wished he hadn’t and that he could have continued a few more years.

Jake was a very busy man and seemed to have endless energy. He felt if he wasn’t doing something constructive he was wasting time. Jake was always available to help others by making endless trips to Omaha and Lincoln, Nebraska for those who needed rides to their doctor appointments or treatments.

Lovingly known to his family as “Budge”, he was a family man everyone could depend on. Jake was also known for his ornery side, which he never out-grew. When Gavin was young, he enjoyed helping coach baseball teams and being involved with Boy Scouts. Jake was a member of the Rock Port Baptist Church and Ralph Greer American Legion Post #49, Rock Port. He was a 50 year member of the North Star Lodge #157 A.F. and A.M., Rock Port. Jake was a former member of the Rock Port Nutrition Center Board and Wranglers Saddle Club, where he served on the High School National Rodeo Board. Jake passed away Tuesday, September 14, 2021 at his home in Rock Port, at the age of 89.

Besides his parents, Jake was preceded in death by his son, Gavin McCall; infant twin sisters, Cordelia Fay and Viola Mae; sisters, Mary Spittler, Helen Garst, and Alice Martin. Survivors include wife of 67 years, Betty Ann McCall, Rock Port; daughter, Cheryl McCall (Robert Lee), Lawson, Missouri; grandchildren, B.J. (Stephanie) Floyd, Auburn, Nebraska, and Blair (Ben) Jaworski, Bennington, Nebraska; great grandchildren, Travon, Harper, Baylee, Delany, Kenady, Maddelyn, and Hailey; numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral Service: 10:00 A.M., Friday, September 17, 2021, Atchison County Memorial Building, Rock Port.

Open visitation begins 9:00 A.M., Thursday, September 16, Atchison County Memorial Building, where the family will receive friends from 6:00-7:00 P.M.

Interment: English Grove Cemetery, Fairfax.

Memorials: English Grove Cemetery, Rock Port Baptist Church, or Rock Port Volunteer Fire Department.
