James F. “Jim” Garst, the son of Charlee Miles and Ardis Ann (McNeal) Garst, was born November 17, 1961, in Fairfax, Missouri. He attended Rock Port High School in Rock Port, Missouri, graduating in 1980. Jim also attended Missouri Western State College in St. Joseph, Missouri.
On February 17, 2005, Jim was united in marriage to Tracey Davis at the Little Chapel of the Flowers in Las Vegas, Nevada. They made their home on the Garst family farm west of Watson, Missouri.
From an early age, Jim had a passion for farming. He loved the fertile Watson soil that produced abundantly for their family operation. He participated in their diversification to include potatoes, which they were currently harvesting. Jim loved to travel and spend time with family and friends at the cabin at Big Lake. His love for family and farming was the number one priority in his life. Jim passed away Wednesday, August 13, 2014, at his home in Watson at the age of 52.
Jim served as a founding board member of the Atchison County Wholesale Water District. He served on the Public Water District #1 and Watson Special Road District boards. He was a former member of the Watson Volunteer Fire Department.
Jim is survived by wife, Tracey, Watson; daughters, Tarah Garst and her daughters, Kynzie and Kynnedi, and Laura Garst and her daughters, Mya and Jayla, all of Omaha, Nebraska; step-daughter, Scarlett Kish, Watson; parents, Charlee and Ardis Garst, Rock Port, Missouri; sister, Dayan Garst, St. Joseph, Missouri; father and mother-in-law, Elmer and Kathy Davis, Rock Port; and many friends.
Funeral Service:
10:30 A.M., Saturday, August 16, 2014, Minter Funeral Chapel, Rock Port, Missouri.
A cremation will be completed following the service.
Inurnment:
A private family inurnment will be held at a later date at High Creek Cemetery, Watson.
There is no scheduled family visitation. Open visitation will begin 10:00 A.M., Friday, August 15, 2014, at Minter Funeral Chapel, Rock Port.
