John Patrick Glenn, son of James and Leola (Sjulin) Glenn was born November 15, 1944 in Hamburg, Iowa. Pat attended school in Sidney, Iowa where he was a standout athlete, musician and dramatic actor, graduating with honors in 1963. He devoted many happy years to the Iowa 4-H program culminating in his election as the State President from 1963-1964. Pat attended Iowa State University from 1963-1970, graduating with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Degree, and a life-long passion for Cyclone sports. He joined Farm House fraternity, the ISU veterinary professional fraternity, and the Iowa Veterinary Medical Association. During his third year in vet school, Pat enlisted in the United States Army Officer’s Candidate School. Following graduation, he spent the remainder of his four year military commitment as a Post Veterinarian with the 3rd Army Headquarters, Ft. McPherson, Atlanta, Georgia.
In 1968, Pat was united in marriage to Sherry Teachout. They became the parents of Jeremy James and Erin Beryl. They were later divorced. From 1970-1975, Dr. Glenn worked as a small animal veterinarian in Phoenix and Wickenburg, Arizona. In 1974, he purchased a practice in Guthrie Center, Iowa, where he practiced until late in 1976 and was forever affectionately known as Doc. Throughout his life, he cared for animals and enthusiastically shared that love with all who knew him. Pat was a member of the Guthrie Center Jaycees, Lion’s Club, the AVMA, and Guthrie Center Christian Church, where he formed a strong bond with Rev. Jerry Palmer with whom he enjoyed a spirited Cyclone-Hawkeye rivalry for many years. Doc passed away Sunday, April 24, 2011 at Mercy Hospital Hospice Unit, Iowa City, Iowa, at the age of 66 years and with family members at his side.
Pat was preceded in death by his father, mother, step father, E. B. Nennemann, and sister-in-law, Donna Glenn. Survivors include his children, Jeremy Glenn (Jennifer), Chicago, Illinois, Erin Feldmann (Greg), Iowa City; grandchildren, Allison, Lydia and Annabelle Glenn, Jacob, Nathan and Lauren Feldmann; three brothers, Jim Glenn (Donna), Sidney, Iowa, Bob Glenn (Delores), Hamburg, Iowa, Michael Glenn, Shenandoah, Iowa; sister, Neysa Sue Nennemann, Phoenix, Arizona; ten nieces and nephews, and a host of great-nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials will be graciously accepted by Iowa City Hospice, Pet Peace of Mind Program, 1025 Wade Street, Iowa City, IA 52240.
MEMORIAL SERVICES: 10:00 a.m., Friday, April 29, 2011, Minter Funeral Chapel, Rock Port.
INURNMENT: Greenhill Cemetery, Rock Port.
Military Rites under the auspices of Ralph Greer American Legion Post #49, Rock Port.
There is no visitation.
