Marjorie Coe Sheppard was born September 18, 1921 in Fairfax, Missouri, the daughter of Earle Sutherland Coe and Kathleen (Quick) Coe. She was educated in Tarkio schools. She graduated from Tarkio High School, Stephens College, of Columbia, Missouri and attended the University of Missouri also in Columbia.
On June 21, 1941, Marge was united in marriage to Charles W. Sheppard. After a short time in Richmond, Missouri and Kansas City, Missouri; Marge and Chuck raised their four children in Tarkio. Marge was very active in community activities. A devoted member of the United Methodist Church of Tarkio, she was a past president of U.M.W. She was a member and past president of Tarkio Chapter FF of the P.E. O. Sisterhood. She was the first Director of the Red Cross Swimming Program at the Tarkio Pool, completing her Water Safety Instructor certification in Okoboji, Iowa. Marge was also instrumental in the initiation of the Mule Barn Theater Guild. She spent many hours as a Girl Scout leader and on Garden Club projects. Marge loved to fly; she loved horses and devoted endless hours in leadership capacities for the Rodeo Association and the Tarkio Rough Riders. Many summers were spent trailering horses and daughters to area horse show events. She was also known as the “First Lady of Tarkio” while Chuck served as Mayor of Tarkio for 15 years.
Marge was a wonderful wife and mother. She loved to entertain and possessed the gift of hospitality. She was well known for her smile and homemade pies. She was a loving grandmother and loved sitting poolside on her deck watching and supervising her grandchildren in the pool. Marge passed away on July 18, 2008 at Northview Manor in Tarkio with her husband, Chuck and daughter, Elaine by her side.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister and soul mate, Katie.
Survivors include her husband Chuck of 67 years, daughter Kathy Caves and husband, Tom, Monterey, California, son, Steve Sheppard and wife, Vicki, Asheville, North Carolina, daughters, Elaine Broermann, and husband, Gregg, Shenandoah, Iowa, and Dianne Bessert and husband, Barry, of Fort Collins, Colorado, 14 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and expecting two soon, brother Ryland Coe and wife, Ardis of Roswell, Georgia.

INTERMENT
Home Cemetery, Tarkio.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, July 23, 2008 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Davis Funeral Home, Tarkio.
