Rick Allen Meyerkorth, the son of Richard Arnold and Mary Louise (Cooper) Meyerkorth was born July 18, 1952 in Fairfax, Missouri.  Rick graduated from Rock Port High School in 1970. In 1974 he received his Bachelor of Science in Agriculture Economics with academic and Naval ROTC honors from University of Missouri – Columbia. Rick was then commissioned in the United States Navy as an Ensign, serving his country during the Vietnam War.  On June 22, 1978, Rick was honorably discharged as Lieutenant (junior grade).

On July 27, 1973, Rick was united in marriage to Patti Shineman at the First Lutheran Church, Rock Port. They became the parents of three children; Jill, Ryan and Jared.  He was so proud of his family including his eleven grandchildren.

Following Rick’s military service, the family returned home, to the Missouri River bottom, to partner with his dad and brother on the family farm operation.  Rick was a “bottom farmer”, who was detail-oriented, timely, and an early riser.  Even during the numerous floods and hardships, Rick demonstrated integrity with a principled business model.  “Do it the right way, not the easy way”.  Rick attended the Rock Port Baptist Church.  He loved reading the Bible and applying it to his life.  He loved his family and demonstrated what it means to live by faith.

Rick served the community for many years on the Rock Port Board of Education, the Atchison County Levee Board, and was Manager of Ag Power from 1987 to 1994. Rick excelled in basketball and played in the Navy and enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren compete in athletics.  Rick passed away Wednesday, August 21, 2019 at his home in Rock Port at the age of 67.

Besides his mother, Mary Louise, Rick was preceded in death by an infant daughter and mother-in-law, Juanita Shineman.  Survivors include, wife, Patti Meyerkorth, Rock Port; children, Jill (Sean) McIntyre, Blue Springs, Missouri, Ryan (Becky) Meyerkorth and Jared (Kari) Meyerkorth, all of Rock Port;  eleven grandchildren, Jordyn, Jayden, Jaxson, Jada, Avery, Ella, Audrie, Jackson, Leah, Andrew and Eli; father, Richard Arnold (Virginia) Meyerkorth, Rock Port; sisters, Peggy (Chuck) Hailey, Blue Springs, Diane (George) Carpenter, Carrollton, Missouri; brother, David Meyerkorth (Vicki Ellner) Rock Port; father-in-law, Gabe (Alta) Shineman, Stanberry, Missouri; brother-in-law, Steve (Jo Lynn) Shineman, Rock Port, sister-in-law, Julie (John) Sutherland, St. Louis, Missouri; numerous nieces and nephews.
