Scott Steven Freborg, 59, of Rock Port, Missouri, died Sunday December 3, 2017, surrounded by his children and devoted wife at Pleasant View Nursing Home.

Scott was born on August 18, 1958, the son of John A. and Dorothy (Sveen) Freborg in the rolling prairies of northwestern North Dakota. Scott grew up the fourth of five sons in Tioga, which remained a community he loved very much. He was a member of First Lutheran Church.

Scott attended the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. After finishing his studies, he accepted a job at Cooper Nuclear Station in Brownville, Neb., where he spent the entirety of his 32-year career.

Upon moving to the Midwest, Scott met Lisa Phelps, whom he married on October 9, 1987. After settling in Rock Port, they had two sons, Jordan and Myles. Beyond his work as an engineer, Scott led a calm, contented life and maintained a rich range of hobbies. Notably, he took great joy in acquiring bygone objects and returning them to their original, untarnished condition.

Scott was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s disease in October 2012. Though the final years of his life were marred by the steady decline and fog of the illness that beset him, his family and friends will always remember Scott for his unassuming, steady nature, quiet generosity, and brilliant mind.

He is survived by his wife, Lisa, of Rock Port, Mo.; two sons, Jordan and his wife, Katie, of Independence, Mo., and their son Ben; and Myles of Columbia, Mo.; four brothers, Mike of Alexandria, Minn.; Joel and his wife, Nicole, of Fargo, ND; Don and his wife, Betty, of Tioga, ND; and Jim and his wife, Chris, of Elk River, Minn., as well as by numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding Scott in death were his parents, John and Dorothy (Dot) Freborg.

Memorial Service: 11:00 A.M., Friday, December 8, 2017, First Lutheran Church, Rock Port, Missouri.
There is no inurnment planned at this time.

Memories of Scott, as well as a register book will be available beginning 9:00 A.M., Thursday, December 7, Minter Funeral Chapel, Rock Port. There is no scheduled family visitation.
