Shirley May Richards, the daughter of Claude Carol and Esther (Poppa) Cook, was born on November 17, 1948, in Clarinda, Iowa. Shirley attended Rock Port High School, Rock Port, Missouri, graduating in 1966.

 

In 1968, Shirley was united in marriage to Bill Richards in Washington D.C. and they became the parents of four children, Bryan, Scott, Samantha, and Bill. They later divorced.

 

In 1967, Shirley moved to Washington D.C., where she was employed by the Federal Government. She was later employed by Prince William County School Boards, Manassas, Virginia, where she made policies that governed the School District. In 1984, the family returned to Rock Port where Shirley worked various jobs including, restaurants, agriculture, and home health care.

 

Shirley passed away Saturday, August 1, 2020 at Tarkio Rehabilitation and Health Care, Tarkio, Missouri, at the age of 71.

 

Besides her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by siblings, William Cook and Catherine Hawk. Survivors include, children, Bryan (Holly) Richards, Tarkio, Scott Richards, St. Louis, Missouri, Samantha (Steve) Alexander, Shenandoah, Iowa,  and Bill (Heather) Richards, Rosendale, Missouri; grandchildren, Skyla, Matt, Codie (Kelsey), Jeremy (Paige), Nate, Bryce, Brandon, Virginia, Brook, Logan, Reanna, Wyatt, Cheyenne, and Brady; great grandchildren, Madyson, Lakotah, Raylon, and Taeyln; sister, Marge Pint, Colorado.

 

Memorial Service: 1:00 PM Friday, August 7, 2020, Minter Funeral Chapel, Rock Port.

Inurnment: St. John’s Cemetery, Westboro, Missouri

Memorials: Paralyzed Veterans of America

There is no visitation.

Arrangements: Minter Funeral Chapel, Rock Port.
